Typically, fish can do this in the wild by consuming different kinds of plants, algae, and insects throughout the day. Aquarium fish don’t have a ready supply of these kinds of food though, which is where pupae come in.
What Are Pupae?
Many people tend to see larvae and pupae as the same thing, but the pupa is actually the third stage in an insect’s life. In layman’s terms, calling larvae and pupae the same would be like saying that preteens and teenagers are the same. From a human perspective, an insect’s life cycle works like so:
